Thirteen years and more than 2,000 graduates later, the Langley Group Institute has become re:cognition. Same accreditation. Same team. Same science. Sharper focus, bigger ambition. The question still drives everything.

I was fifteen the first time I couldn't breathe. We all thought it was asthma. It was a panic attack. That night my bedside table started filling with books that might explain what was happening inside me. One question came with them and never left.
What actually makes humans grow, succeed and live fulfilling lives?
I've been chasing the answer ever since. Through a law degree I knew I'd never practise. Through twenty years building programs for Crown, Telstra and Mazda. Until I went looking for the one course I most wanted to study myself, and found it didn't exist. Anywhere in the world.
So I built it.
about the name re:cognition.

The colon in our name is doing real work.

Read it one way and it's 'regarding cognition,' the science of how the mind actually works. Read it as a single word, 'recognition,' and it's about being seen for who you are and what you can now do. We mean both at once.
Then there's the 'co,' drawn as the infinity loop. That's the part that keeps moving. The science feeds the real work. The work you do on yourself feeds the work you do with everyone around you. And it doesn't stop there. It carries into the rooms our graduates walk into and the people they bring it home to.
That's the whole idea. Good science, real skills, and work that keeps paying off long after the course ends.
Most workplace wellbeing goes the same way. People sit through a one-day workshop, leave full of good intentions, and by Monday they're back at their desks doing exactly what they did before.
The science is sound. It's the delivery that's missing.
So that's where we start. Before we build anything, we ask one question: what will this person actually do differently on Monday morning? Then we work backwards from the answer.
It's why our courses are accredited, not just a good day out. Why we test what people can do with the work, not what they can recite. And why everyone who teaches for us has done the job themselves, not just read about it. You don't shift a culture from the front of a room. You shift it from inside the everyday work.

Five things hold true in everything we build. They're not slogans. They're the test every program has to pass before we'll put our name on it.
No fluffy theory. No performing wellbeing for show. We say what we mean, including the hard parts, and we expect the same back. Being honest in the room is the point, not the exception.
Every tool has to work on an ordinary Tuesday. If you can't use it before lunch, we don't teach it.
Built with our students, partners, alumni and the industries we work in. We design with the people who'll actually use it, not for them.
We spot the gap and build the qualification before the rest of the field catches up. Positive psychology, accredited in 2013. The Certificate IV in Wellbeing Science, built during the pandemic. Psychosocial safety, taught before the law made it compulsory.
Our job is to put ourselves out of a job. You leave with the language, the science and the confidence to keep going without us.
